arthurs pass plants and birds

ARTHURS PASS PLANTS AND BIRDS
there are three types of lancewood the rarest type is the fierce lancewood. Lancewood can either be in its juvenile stage or its adult stage when it's in its juvenile stage the leaves are skinny, light green and pointy. After about 15 to 20 years it goes into its adult stage then the leaves goes thick, a greeny brown and not as sharp.  Lancewood is native to new Zealand and its scientific name is pseudopanax crassfolious. the reason lancewood has a spiky edge is when the moa was around they tried to eat it but they couldn't because of the spiky edge.

There are three types of beech tree in Arthur's pass the first one is mountain beech grows at high altitudes and grows up to 20 metres. The second type is red beech or fuscospora fusca it is a medium sized tree growing up to 35m tall. The leaves are 2 to 4 cm long and 3 cm width and the last type is silver beech or lophozonia menziesii the reason it is called silver beech is because the bark is a whitish colour and silver beech grows up to 30m tall.

The total estimation of the kea population is about 5000. Kea normally live at the high ground and mountains in New Zealand south island.  Kea eat all sorts of things like berries, roots, shoots, insect larvae and human food like things left on the skifield an in rubbish bins. The best place to go to see keas is Deaths corner on highway 73.

Arthur's pass camp

   Arthur's pass camp
It was school camp I couldn't wait I jumped out of bed got      dressed, ate breakfast and packed my bag. At school everybody was waiting round to get on the bus. On the bus I was next to the window when out of nowhere it    started snowing and made the trip 10x better. At the lodge we went to the dining room and ate lunch. 15 minutes later we met Logan. Then we got shown our bunk rooms my bunk room had me, Lochie, Kade, Jack L, Derek and PG.

Logan told us what to wear and not. Like the three things that keep you warm are wool, polypro and fleece then Logan told us that cotton pushes the heat off you to try to dry itself while wool traps it between your skin and the wool to dry itself after that. We went orienteering we came last but it was fun next we had lunch and got ready to walk Devil's Punchbowl.

After lunch we started walking down the road to Devils Punchbowl. When we got there we started the walk it was a lot of stairs, when we got to the top there was a massive waterfall. Walking back down me and Matty started running we were the first ones back then we played running screamer. It is when you have to run up a hill screaming Boyd won by a lot.

Back at the lodge we played spotlight while the dinner group was cooking tea the first round I was one of the first ones found after a couple more rounds I needed to put the cutlery out. After tea we played two ball football but most people were just sliding round. After the games we went to see this waterfall the was very clear and you could see the stones at the bottom, the water looked very cold.

When we got back to the lodge we played spotlight in my bunk room I hid in my sleeping bag I came first then we went out and had a milo it was really hot and not much flavour.

The next day it was snowing and we did a snowman competition but I was just chucking snowballs at the other teams. The snowman that came first looked kind of like a penguin, we came second. After that we went for a walk I was in the first group halfway up Logan told us about himself he was Bear Grylls safety person and that Bear Grylls would tell you not to eat snow because it burns your lips and after a while would kill you, when we got back at the lodge when they went on the walk I built this massive snowball with Jack L and Mia  then we broke it and the leftover bits of snow we chucked at the big snowman.

In the afternoon we went shelter building in the bush me and Jack were in a group and we did an a-frame and no one got wet

When we got back to the lodge my kitchen group started to cook dinner we were doing spag bowl firstly I done the dishes and the did the salad with Declyn it tasted very nice.

The next day it was time to leave and on the bus I was in the middle with Declyn, Lochie Matty and Mark we were all telling jokes when we got back to school the place where all the luggage is kept the flung open and I lost my sleeping bag. But Mr Mcaulay found it a couple days later.

hunting argument

                                                  Hunting

Hunting is a controversial subject so I will show you three reasons to go hunting and three reasons not to go hunting.

Everyone should go hunting with their kids, hunting gets kids off the computer and out into the outside world.
Hunting also teaches kids firearm safety. Going hunting will also raise fitness levels and teach kids valuable survival skills, I encourage every parent to go hunting with their kids.

Hunting is good because you can see views that you will never see sitting on the couch doing nothing also you can see some pretty awesome animals like birds, deer, elk shammy and bulltar some views are sunsets, rivers, mountains and lakes. This is why you should go hunting to see animals and views.

Hunting is good because you can help with pest control some pests are stoats, hare, possum, rats, rabbits, weasel, goats, tahr and deer. The way we can stop these pests growing is by getting out and going hunting. For example there is a bushwalk and there is possum traps everywhere so possums don't kill native birds. So this why you should go hunting to stop these pests growing.

Poaching is illegal hunting. It is a big problem around the world. An example of this which is when poachers illegally catch sharks and cut the fins off and let the shark go into the sea. That means they can not swim so they drown.
This is why poachers need to stopped.

Trophy hunting is a type of hunting that people try to catch the biggest and the best catches. Trophy hunting needs to be stopped, for the purpose of the animals. If you want lions, giraffes, bears, big cats, rhino, moose, buffalo, hippos and elephants to live. STOP!!!!!  trophy hunting if you want to save these animals.

Endangered animals are a big problem. Some endangered animals that are getting hunted are leatherback turtles, tigers, javan rhinoceros, amur leopards, northern sportive lemurs, saolas these are just 6 animals that are getting hunted. So say no to killing endangered animals.
